What is a Community Chest?

We have a budget set aside each financial year for community based projects in areas where we have housing stock.

You can apply for funding up to a maximum of £750 by simply completing an application form.

Examples of eligible projects include: Educational workshops, setting up a residents group, leaflet drops, training and/or diversionary activities.

Your project should fall under at least one of the following categories:

  • Safer - such as extra security lighting
  • Greener - such as planting of shrubs/plants
  • Cleaner - such as litter bins/removal of graffiti
  • United - such as projects that encourage better relations between neighbours

 We will not fund:

  • Activities promoting a particular religious or political belief.
  • Any project that is the responsibility of a statutory body.
  • Any projects that do not have a strong and relevant connection to STAR Housing communities or its customers.
  • Any profit making projects.
  • Any projects that are already complete.
  • We will not make a contribution of any more than £750 per application.

How will I know if I have been successful in obtaining a Community Chest grant?

Once we receive your application form, we will send you an acknowledgement letting you know on what date the application will be considered by the Area Panel at their bi-monthly meeting.

Following the meeting we will contact you again to let you know whether or not your application has been successful.

What happens if the application is successful?

We will send you the money via a BACS payment or upon submission of an invoice.

You will then need to complete an end of grant report no later than 12 months after the money has been awarded.

Who do I contact if I need help completing the application?

Save water and save money

Saving water can be an easy process. The smallest changes can make a huge difference overtime. Remember, around 25% of your energy bill comes from heating water - so being efficient can help cut down on bills too!
