We have recently completed a community project at Willowgate – a Sheltered Scheme in Oswestry – that will provide residents (The Willows) with a much needed multi-purpose outdoor communal area.

Our Area Panel granted 'The Willows' £500 funding though the Community Chest Fund and supplied labour through their own repairs staff.

Among other areas of the community offering their support, Tudor Griffiths very kindly provided materials for the project to be bought at a discounted price to allow the successful delivery of this worthwhile project.

Jon Griffiths, Branch Manager at Tudor Griffiths Group, said:

We recognise the positive impacts that the successful delivery of community projects can have on improving the local area. We’re proud that we were able to offer our support to assist the high quality completion of this project and hope 'The Willows' get enjoyment from it.”

Work included converting a dropped and overgrown shrub bed into a level access decked area with a flower bed and planters. This will benefit the residents living in the Sheltered Scheme and their visiting friends and family.

Now the work is completed, 'The Willows' plan to enter the Oswestry in Bloom competition for the best communal garden.

The local Housing Officer and Supporting Housing Officer championed this project because of their experience of working on other sheltered schemes and seeing how an increase in group activities can improve the lives of elderly people living independently.

Sue Adams, Managing Director, said:

It’s great to see our Community Chest grants helping people and the fact it has brought areas of the community together to deliver an important project is fantastic. It’s so rewarding for us to know that we are making positive and significant impacts on communities, and giving people the platforms to a better quality of living.”
