£140 off your energy bill for those who qualify

Thousands of households in Shropshire could be eligible for £140 off their fuel bills this winter, as part of the government-backed Warm Homes Discount scheme.  Local charity Marches Energy Agency and Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing are urging tenants to apply for the discount now, if they think they may be eligible, as funds are administered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

Those receiving guaranteed element of Pension Credit will automatically receive the discount, which will be deduced from their fuel bill.  However, many more people will qualify against wider criteria, which include being on a low income, having poor health, or having children.  Each energy company sets their own criteria.  Tenants can contact their energy company to see if they are eligible or MEA’s advice line on 0800 112 3743 for more information and support through the process.

Residents qualifying automatically will should receive a letter by the 24th of December stating that they will receive the discount automatically and do not need to apply by the 29th January.
