Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing (STAR) is delighted to have received a special tree from The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) “Tree of Trees” which stood tall as a message of hope and optimism to the nation and the world as part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations.

STAR Housing joined over 300 organisations from across the UK who were recently announced by the QGC as recipients of these special trees in The Queen’s name, which were gifted in a pot embossed with Her Majesty’s cypher.

Presented by His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, the tree was planted on Wednesday 26th October at Oak Street in Highley, Shropshire.

The tree has become part of the living legacy in honour of Her Majesty, joining over a million trees already planted across the UK as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy.

Angela Simpson from STAR Housing, said: “We are thrilled to be chosen for our commitment to improving our green spaces which we have done by planting 36 trees under the QGC and for our contribution to our communities. As a local housing provider, we feel so proud to be able to honour the Queen and show our dedication to sustainability. It truly is beautiful and we hope will be very much cherished by our residents and the community”

“This important recognition of Star Housing’s commitment and support for the Queens Green Canopy QGC over the last 12 months provides the opportunity to remind everyone that King Charles has determined that the plantings for QGC can continue up to the end of the planting season in 2023. Instead of supporting the Jubilee, plantings can now be in commemoration of our late Queen as well as to enhance the nations zero carbon objectives.” Said Anna Turner, Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire.

“All plantings whether for single trees, avenues or coppices should be recorded on the digital map on the QGC website https://queensgreencanopy.org/map-education-hub/qgc-map/#/ preferably with a photograph. We hope to see more and more entries across Shropshire on the map which will be presented to His Majesty at the end of March.” Said Robert Bland, Deputy Lieutenant.
