STAR Housing is committed to building much needed affordable homes, in the right place, to meet the needs of the people of Shropshire.

Our developments are carefully designed to ensure that they’re as energy efficient as possible, and that they include modern facilities for residents. For each proposed development we carry out pre-planning consultation events where we invite neighbours, councillors, and other stakeholders to share their views and offer suggestions on the proposed plans.

Wherever possible, we involve the community with our development plans and we’ve previously undertaken several Community Led Schemes. This local input is invaluable and ensures that we build the correct properties as sensitively as possible.

We typically build both affordable rent and shared ownership homes. Our first phase of building, which included 68 homes, was completed in March 2015. Since then, we’ve successfully built 140 new affordable homes in the County and, by the end of 2024, we plan to have built 232 new properties across 35 different sites.

In addition to building affordable homes, we also purchase properties from other developer partners.
