“When I found out I won I was surprised as it was my second time entering and the garden has altered a lot since last time. I am thankful for the help Les gave me putting the garden together.”

Best Wildlife Friendly | Rich & Pippa Pope

Pippa Pope Best Wildlife Friendly Winner with Pete Eva

“It is nice that the garden has brought pleasure to others, and that mum is living on. It really does mean ever such a lot, we stood in the garden last night and said to each other (her partner Rich) imagine somebody else considering our hotchpotch little haven worthy! As ‘unconventional gardeners’ it is really something to be recognised, and more poignant given how precious many of the plants out there are and their connection to loved ones. When I told Rich, he said ‘my Dad and your Mum would be so proud’ - and that’s what it means to us. For Rich the front garden is his link to his Dad, and for me it’s the link to my Mum (& Aunty Kath).”

Best Container | Jackie Tyers

“I have worked hard and it is nice to have achieved something for it. Neighbours and a hedgehog enjoy the garden.”

Best Garden | Mary Griffiths

“When we first moved here it had previously been owned by a mechanic and we spent months digging up parts of old cars! The space was bare and it has taken us years to get to where we are now. I have used shower curtains as a way to cover up the view to the railway and over old fences, an idea I found on the internet. The garden has got to where it has by using mine and Trev’s spare time and dedication over the last 11 years.”

Derwen College’s Commercial Development Manager, Pete Evans, presented the winners with a certificate, £50 voucher and roses which were kindly donated from David Austin Roses.
