The priority will be to replace all remaining wooden windows (where planning restrictions allow) with PVC-u framed, double glazed, internally beaded, with security handles and locking mechanisms to meet the requirements of current Building Regulations and have a minimum ( where possible) window energy rating of 1.4 U value.
The next priority will be to replace existing PVC- u windows (where needed) with the more modern specification system.
The decision to replace existing PVC- u windows is based upon condition, age, the ability to repair and requirements of the Decent Homes Standard which generally states that:
Windows need to be in poor condition and generally over 30 years old to fail the standard.
If you are on the replacement programme you will be sent a letter with a prepaid envelope informing you that you are on the programme. There will be a tear off slip for you to complete to let us know whether you would like to have the work done. If we do not receive the slip it is assumed you do not want the replacement.
You will then be contacted by our contractor to arrange a convenient date for a window survey to take place.
After the survey the windows will be manufactured and our contractors will then give you a date for the work to start and advise you of what you need to do in advance of the work.
It will normally take 3 - 5 working days (dependent upon No of windows and external wall finish).
You would have to remove curtains and any ornaments etc within the window area and give unimpeded access to the windows, externally and internally to allow the operatives to physically undertake the installation.
Care will be taken to reduce the possibility of decoration damage during the course of the works. The joint between the new window frame and the existing internal plaster / window boards will be covered with a white quadrant or trim.
